Pick a real world problem that can be solved with optimization and solve it Uw madison's program is good, but there's so many people in it *because* of how good it is/how easy it is to enroll in ( u/uwmadisonstudent1 mentioning the grade requirements to enroll) so be prepared for a lot of frustration when trying to enroll in courses you want. Lectures were very theoretical for the most part but the problem sets were very much applied, we used the julia programming language which is quickly catching on for a lot of scientific computing, professor lessard was perhaps the best prof i had at uw, the final project was very open ended: I'll also say that the waitlist system here can be a pain.
